Asha Maria Madge is a contemporary Australian painter of Tamil Sri Lankan and British heritage. Raised between Hong Kong, England, America, Sri Lanka and Australia her practice is an encounter with visions of transience. Submerged in philosophical, feminist and de-colonial analysis, her work engages in non-linearity, global contexts and the interplay of internal and external influences, considering time as a depository of meaning via the interpretative dualities of painterly viscosities. Embracing an embodied irreverence towards societal and artistic boundaries of categorisation, she emanates a bold and diverse approach to mark-making, scale, colour and experimentation; considering the potential of painting and drawing in space to articulate meaning and act as a compilation of mood and temporality, memory and resistance.
